Assessment

All students and parents will be made aware of year program plans during the first week of school by classroom and homeroom teachers.
This plan will outline what is being studied and when during the year. In addition, teachers will inform students and parents of the assessment and evaluation plans and expectations for each class.
Students will be made aware of how they will be expected to demonstrate achievement and how term marks will be determined.
It is hoped that this will allow parents to be more supportive of individual student programs and help students to achieve at their highest level.

Assessment is the process of collecting information on student achievement and performance. Teachers will use a variety of assessment strategies including:

tests
group projects
quizzes
performances
daily work
peer evaluations
homework checks
self-evaluations
observations
checklists
work samples
anecdotal records
oral presentations

Evaluation is the judgment made about what the student is able to demonstrate relative to the knowledge, skills and attitudes students are expected to learn.Teachers use many of the assessment strategies outlined above in making a judgment about student achievement and performance.

Communicating Student Growth and achievement can include a number of methods. Progress Reports will include a letter grade indicating level of achievement, a letter grade indicating level of effort, curricular comments (term focus) and personal comments in order to communicate student achievement.

Our formal Assessment Policy is available for your perusal as well.
